LED Bulbs in the Smart Home

Recently there has been a lot of talk about the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart homes where we can connect our household items to run more efficiently such as our washer and dryer “talking” to one another or our refrigerator knowing when we need more ice. Lighting companies are also working towards creating new technology that can connect to the smart home. Cree and GE both unveiled smart bulbs that can connect to a user’s smart phone to control the bulb. This means homeowners can easily remotely control their home’s lighting.

Cree’s smart bulb is compatible with the ZigBee and Wink hubs that connect the bulb to a user’s smartphone to allow homeowners to control the bulb. GE’s Link works the same way although GE recommends using its Link hub or the Wink hub. As we mentioned in our last blog post, LED light bulbs have become increasingly more affordable, which is helping to make their use more widespread and driving new advancements such as the smart bulb.

At Bulb Direct we’ll continue to follow innovations in the lighting industry and publish them on our blog. We also regularly post updates on our social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+. To learn more about our lighting products, visit our website.
