Why Edison Retro Bulbs Are Lighting Up in a High-Tech World

Coming off our previous blog on lighting innovations from CES, it seems that everything these days in the world of light bulbs is about the high-tech future. While we carry plenty of next-generation LED and energy-efficiency bulbs, we also understand there are times when our customers want something a little more classic—very classic, like the very first light bulb.

For those who might not know, Thomas Alva Edison patented more than a thousand different inventions, and very notable patent centered on the incandescent light bulb. Edison’s 1879 light bulb looks very similar to incandescent we use the in modern world: socket with filaments that jet up into a rounded glass bulb.

However, most modern options have a rounded glass bulb, whereas Edison’s had a pointed top design. (Fun fact: he also had a glass blowing shed where he spent time perfecting his creation.)

At Bulb Direct, we appreciate the classic look with new design, which is why we are now offering a selection of Edison retro style bulbs. These are offered in nine different designs and voltages including:
